  阅读:Pheonician was the first people to sail around Africa,理由不可信。

  1:Simple technique, 航海技术不够先进到让他们穿过赤道到达非洲南端;

  2:Egyptian rulers were not interested in exploration beyond their lands;

  3:Made-up story, 古代人很喜欢编故事,很可能Pheonician的航海故事也是人们编造出来的,而非历史事实。

  听力:反驳阅读观点

  1:It is true that the technique was simple, but scientists made it to sail around Africa merely by the ships that they recreated by using the exact same techniques and materialsat the Phoenician time.

  2:埃及国王们的确普遍是不喜欢探索外面的世界,但是Necho II was very interested in water transportation. 他开发建了canals等等。因此有可能他支持海外航海,因为他wanted to find newtrade partners。

  3:在Phoenician 航海故事中有关sun’s position的详细记载:after 12 o’clock, they found the sun was in the north when they were at the Southern Hemisphere, 在南半球看到太阳在北部,这对于在北半球的古代人来说是很难编出来的。

  Both the author and the lecturer concentrate on the challenges that people encounter when they dig the ErieCanal. The reading passage asserts that these three methods are quite effective to stop this tendency. However, the professor in the lecture to tally refutesall the passage's viewpoints.

  Firstly, even though the writer claims that the forest was on the way, which means it is difficult to dig the canal.and wetland causes the increasing number of mosquito, giving rise to illness of workers. the speaker discredits this by arguing that the viewpoint is not convincing, as it could save the labour, with the invention of the root tool. Moreover,there will be no mosquito because the wetland will freeze in the winter, after which it starts working.

  Furthermore, despite the statement in the reading passage that too less people are involved in digging canal, the professor contends that more and more new migrants would come there, who do nothave jobs. The speaker further explains that they need jobs to support themselves and families, which is exactly thelabour source.

  Finally, the author states that it does not deserve to construct the canal, for the profit is far less than the investment,and in this region, the trade is not necessary due to the less people here. The lecturer counters that it doesn’t work well. The professor advances theargument, saying that less people is due to the poor transportation system and establishing the canal is beneficial for shortening the time and saving the cost.

  In brief, the writer and the speaker contradict each other on whether these three methods are invalid to tackle the challenges of digging canal.

  Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: one can learn a lot about another person from the books and the movies that the person likes.

  Spending a significant amount of time with someone is necessary to get to know their personalities and temperaments.Sometimes, people can also tell a person’s quality and determine his or herpersonality by analyzing their behaviors. When it comes to the question of whether one can learn about another person from the books or movies that the person likes, I personally am in favor of this statement based on the following reasons.

  First off, by judging from the books or movies or even TV programs that someone like we can tell a person’s interests and hobbies, consequently we can learn more about them. For example, My roommate back in college was really into auto magazines, TV shows and even movies featuring fancy sports cars. It is not an exaggeration to claim that he can tell not only the brand but also the version of a specific vehicle by just checking out the picture of the cockpit of the car. At first, I didn’t know him so well, however, I was sure at that time that he must have been a big fan of cars. Therefore, we can tell a person’s hobbies by the movies and books they like.

  Additionally, the genre of the books that someone reads says a lot about the person’s character and temperament.Actually, it is natural for someone to shape their characters just because the characters in the novels or movies have a dramatic impact on the person’s behavior and attitude, regardless of the types of the characters like fairy,alien or someone with superpower. For instance, girls who read a lot of romantic novels like Gone With the Wind might be very emotional and very committed to someone they love. For someone who read science fiction novels or watch movies featuring future events and exploration of outer space, they tend to be very creative and willing to take risks. Thus, the characters in the books or movies mirrors the personalities of their readers or viewers.

  Finally, even though books or movies do not constitute the entire life of a given person, the influences from those sourcesreach far beyond their inner world into their reality. A person who harbors apeculiar interest might draw people who share the same hobby towards them.Since, as we all know, friends or any sort of companionship based on common interests may exert such an ignorable influence on each other, the impact of books or movies on people is actually magnified by those friends they keeps.For instance, two friends who get close to one another may take part in some common activities they have never done before, which defines their daily routines accordingly. Therefore, books or movies one prefers may give us a cue about who that person might be friend and what he or she might do in his or her daily life.

  In a nutshell, by judging from the genre of the book that someone reads, not only can we tell a lot about the person’s interests and hobbies but also the person’s character and temperament as well as his daily life.
